I'm very sorry to let you all know that Dad passed away yesterday, in the hospital with my mum beside him.

He was finishing up another book that is in the process of being published; I'll let you guys know more details about that once we get some more immediate issues addressed.

Dad's blog meant a lot to him - he loved sharing his projects and what he was working on with you guys. He'd been working on here for 10 years! I wanted to thank you on his behalf for the support on here and with his other work, and let you know that it's been a real honor to share such a special man with you all.

All the best to youse. Spend some time with your loved ones and let them know what they mean to you.

Lewis
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-43009319824928874912024-03-09T09:51:00.000+00:002024-03-09T09:51:59.988+00:00Taptoe
Things move at pace. Sadly in the wrong direction. The meeting with the consultant yesterday was not a good one and a heavy blow to my family and I.

I share this with you because in December I had no clue and no symptoms of cancer that stood out from life's normal aches and pains. Know your body. Speak to your Doc if Anything Changes. In my case my relatively young age, and relatively healthy body means the cancer has advanced very quickly.

I'm not away quite yet, and hope to be comfy enough to get couple of games in.

For now I leave you with a line from the Battle of Maldon

Hige sceal þe heardra, || heorte þe cēnre,

mōd sceal þe māre, || swā ūre mægen lȳtlað

"Will must be the harder,

heart the bolder,

spirit must be the greater,

as our might lightens."
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-70607066977135955542024-03-07T16:27:00.001+00:002024-03-07T16:27:43.644+00:00So I guess it's time for an update
Prior to Christmas I thought I was a little run down stressed tired and worn out. Y'know, the usual end of year stuff. Busy job, busy life.

However that feeling didn't go away so I went to the doc. Some tests and a referral later and I was in hospital for a CT scan. I have a mass on my liver blocking my bile ducts which is caused by cancer. This is probably coming from my bowel. However this can't be treated until the bile is managed so I have has two procedures, one to fit plastic stents, and then to replace them with internal metal ones which allow things to flow. The second procedure was quite tough and gave me a real kicking. A good direct chat with my consultant today gave me a clearer picture and I'm quite comfy.

What happens next depends on lots of factors.

But while I am in, I get a lot from your posts and blog updates and gaming news. I can't push my own lead around the table yet, but I enjoy seeing your stuff.

The support I've had from my hobby friends has been great. Keep up the great work, you'd be surprised how much people get from what you share.
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-74873051968193172582024-02-09T09:20:00.000+00:002024-02-09T09:20:25.112+00:00Hors de Combat.
I have been taken unwell and am currently awaiting tests to determine specifically what is wrong.

Unfortunately this is rather serious and it is likely that my Wargaming and blogging will need to be suspended for a while.

Sales of figures advertised will be on hold as I'm not able to pack and send them. Graham had posted on his blog of health issues and like others I assumed that despite their serious nature that he would be back gaming soon and I'd get to catch up with him again. Sadly that was not the case.

Graham was a very kind generous person and always had a smile. As the owner of Crann Tara until sold to Caliver, he not only carried my two books but also arranged for figures to be sculpted to match the sometimes unique troop types found therein. He was very supportive and encouraging of both projects and it was always a pleasure to sit with him for a game or just a chat. Graham was a wargames gentleman.

He will be sore missed by his family and friends and by those in the Wargaming community who knew him.

StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-3083760547655924702024-01-05T14:02:00.003+00:002024-01-05T14:02:36.622+00:00For Sale
Please take a look at the for sale page.

There will be more to come.

Proceeds from the sale will all go to charity and there are some lovely figures.
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-47138951356046464572024-01-03T13:22:00.001+00:002024-01-03T13:22:20.411+00:002024 Begins.
Well I didn't manage to end the year with a game as my car broke down on Hogmanay, scuppering our plans, but we had a fine Chinese takeaway and watched Jools as the bells came in so a nice relaxing end to the year.

We first footed the Hilditch's on the first after being picked up by Graham and whilst our better halves chatted we kicked off a game with Graham's 40mm SYW figures. I was 11 and although I'd come across Featherstone and Grant in local library it wasn't until I came across a copy of White Dwarf 53 in the newsagent where I did a paper round that the wheels were really put in motion.

With the money from my paper round I bought figures from Black Donald's in Waverley Place in Aberdeen. When my Birthday came round in July it was the owner who suggested I got Warhammer I had plenty of figures to play by then.

A trip to York for the Summer holidays meant that I stumbled across the Little Soldier in Gillygate. There I got 15mm Napoleonic Brits and French and copy of the Newbury Napoleonic rules. Whilst I liked Fantasy and Tolkien my interest in History was racing to catch up. For a while it would have to take a back seat as my mates were only interested in fantasy games and RPG's but I never looked back.

I want to mark the anniversary and use it as a theme for my games this coming year.

I'm going to build two small fantasy armies based on Tolkien's Middle Earth in the First Age and Glaurung the Dragon. But it was a wasted opportunity to tell the story of Napoleon and Josephine. That's a pity because that would have been entirely possible with the components Scott had. Focusing on that story entirely without the battles would have made a better film.

But there were too many gaps, too many flaws for me and by the sounds of it most of the folk who were talking as they left the cinema felt the same. Most groups had one or two people explaining the missing bits or highlighting the holes. That is perhaps the issue, many people going to see it will have an interest and know enough to feel it lacks something. Had it been the plot of Bridgerton no one would have minded.

He didn't listen to the critics either....

Don't bother with the forthcoming 4hr streaming version, watch this instead.

The snowball fight is more historically accurate than Ridley's battles!

The Trailer for Ferrari looked good though. Eric's scenario for Zona Alfa was very good. John and I had to infiltrate the zone to so that a Tech could retrieve some kit from the wreckage of a downed aircraft. By tying John's team down in crossfires I was able to get my man in about first and get my hands on whatever it was we were being paid to retrieve, no questions asked. ZA is a neat little system and you can go as straight or weird as you like with the Zone. I look forward to more games.

Friday is also a day off.....and I think I shall get the glue out and maybe do some Aztecs. 40 years ago a party of dwarves fought some goblins on a ziggurat when the first edition of Warhammer hit the shelves. I reckon Conquistadors vs Aztecs would make a good version of that scenario. As I was 11 when I got Warhammer the following year it will be 40yrs of Wargaming for me in 2024. A wee tribute methinks.
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-73833825588993785702023-11-23T22:59:00.000+00:002023-11-23T22:59:41.306+00:00Renaissance Games Continued
Two more games this week this time getting the Irish out for a test drive.

Now I'm no expert, but I'm learning fast and so my knowledge of Irish warfare is limited to Ian Heath's 16th Century Armies and the recent Tudor Warfare Vol2 by Jonathan Davies supplemented by a wee bit of Gush's Renaissance Armies. A broad though shallow sweep.

How to represent them on the table?

Kern as Infantry but able to fight and move through bad terrain

Gallowglass as Swords - no change there

Irish Cavalry as Reiter - not Caracoling but skirmishing with darts, so no change

No Cavalry - so can swap for loose shotte (essentially skirmishers), or more Kern or Gallowglass

Irish can have a unit of "normal" pike and shot infantry

Remember these are a very very simple set of rules which aim to represent warfare distilled to basics so the subtleties may be lost. But this is a tough one because Kern may be main type of Irish infantry but they don't fight in the same way as a pike unit.

So now we have .

National type army lists (basic but getting there)

Card driven activation (tried last week and works well)

Random events when the random event card was drawn (not tried yet)

Leaders with traits which could effect the game (not tried)

Campaign rules with casualty recovery. (not tried)

Game one - Capture the gun

Both sides tried to capture a cannon which had become bogged down in a ford. The side which held it at the end of the game won. Not very subtle and probably favouring the English but the random activation meant that either side had complete control. I've also introduced Random Events so there were a few time when things went "agley". The English were lead by an officer keen on glory and leading from the front but this was a game where shooting would be handy. The Irish on the other had had an officer who had god in his side and who could rally off hits from units he was attached to by his inspirational presence. Things were perhaps more even.

Both sides moved up to the ford and the line of the river, but as expected the English had the upper hand. The Irish weren't able to get to grips, but their skirmishing horse did wear down the heavier English Cavalry and Border Horse and drove them off the table. This gave the English a bit of a wobble and forced one of the back. The Irish had meanwhile be somewhat restored by their inspirational leader and now had the advantage of numbers but pressing the attack was difficult. The worn out English lost another unit, now down to three. This unit had the English leader, still spoiling for a fight and he was slain and in the morale test another ran off. Suddenly there were only two English pike, a ways from the ford, leaderless and without any powder.....the Irish had won.

The tweaks to the rules had made the game interesting, challenging and given a good player the opportunity to get the best from his troops. Most importantly everyone who played, enjoyed it.

Game two was a scenario from the One Hour Wargames book. This time the English deployed two units just below a cross roads flanked by difficult ground (bog in our games). There was some debate about whether the Irish would drag their new cannon along. The decided it would be worth the effort - it wasn't. It fired a shot and ran out of ammo, perhaps fitting given they weren't known for deploying them! Their men surged forward, Gallowglass moving through the bog to try and flank the English. Their first move didn't go well - after taking casualties from the Irish horse one unit drew a random event and recoiled a full move, leaving the other unit dangerously exposed. A series of short turns however meant they were still fighting when their cavalry, weakened by the last game, but still functioning, turned up and stopped the Irish advance, the solid ground between the bogs was now a bottleneck and units had no space to deploy to shoot or turn to fight. Time was running out. One unit of English infantry were wiped out and the Irish cavalry dashed for the crossroads but they were shot down by English calivers. These are very simple and have straightforward mechanisms which give a good, basic, game when the scenarios in his book are used. Over the last few weeks I've added a few tweaks here and there, not to the rule mechanisms but more gloss on top.

These include

Officers who can do a limited number of beneficial activities such as rallying off hits and modifying dice throws.

National troop types which are a little more representational of of the units which made up armies of the time, players being able to swap out swordsmen for artillery or units of "Loose Shotte" for example.

A card based activation system. Lifted from "Victory without Quarter" each unit gets a card allocated from a standard pack, each leader gets one, there's a random event card and a turn end card, so a little unpredictability enters the game.

And a very simple campaign system for tying games together. Casualty recovery, officer traits and a few other bits.

We've tried out some of these (officers, army break levels) over the last couple of weeks and they've added to the games but last night we tried the card activation system. We would probably have had artillery on the table too, but none of the armies rolled up got any swordsmen so no one had the option to swap. (The reason I picked swordsmen as the unit type to play around with was that by the mid and late 1500's most armies had dropped their sword and buckler types, polearmes, etc and moved to pike and shot. The Irish and Highland Scots being exceptions along with the English Billmen who still showed up when the levies were called up).

We played two games from the book with 6 unit armies. The Spanish with 4 infantry, 1 Cavalry (demilancers) and 1 Reiter and the English with 3 infantry, 2 Reiter and 1 Cavalry.

The games played out well with the initial friendly frustration of seeing red card after red card being drawn for the English being reversed then a few hands later the opposite occurred. The turn end came up too early sometimes and too late at others meaning the players were always quite able to do what they wanted when they wanted, a good way of representing the lack of control senior command had once battle was joined. It also meant that the second game was a tactical draw despite the Spanish being hammered by the English as the latter were unable to achieve their objective of seizing the crossroads.

4 players involved, two games played, nice figures shuffled about, battles that had a good period feel to them...whats not to like.

Game one. I was able to drive off the Spanish Cavalry which Dave commanded on that wing but the infantry proved to be too tough a nut to crack. Out of powder and shot, my LHS unit of Reiter galloped down the flank but couldn't quite seize the ground before the turn end card called end of play. On the English right John's infantry did a good job of whittling away the other Spanish units, led by Alistair, but couldn't get close enough to threaten the crossroads.

Had these been campaign games it's likely the Spanish losses over both battles would have left them unable to to fight a third battle. We will put that to the test next week.

Reiter units for the English also need to be looked into. At home or in Ireland I expect they'd be more skirmishing Border Horse, but in the Spanish Netherlands or in France they'd be more common, as part of an allied army. There aren't rules for skirmish cavalry so some thought is needed if I'm going to have games in Ireland or agains the Scots.

StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-60862921052073330212023-11-07T19:51:00.002+00:002023-11-07T19:51:51.073+00:0016thC Spanish
Continuing my 16thC project Ive assembled and painted quite a few of the Wargames Atlantic Conquistador figures. One seems to praying for deliverance rather than victory though.

Supporting them are some Citadel Pistoliers.

I've one more unit of pike and shot to do and using a mix of conquistador bits and warlord landsknecht bodies I have a unit of billmen - they'll join the English. Lastly I have Resin demi lancers and gendarmes and warlord mounted arquebusiers to paint.

Why Spanish?

Well the Gordon's and the Hay's did not end their support for Catholicism with the crowning of James VI. They were implicated in a plot to involve Spain in Scottish affairs and took advantage of the ships of the stricken Spanish Armada to equip themselves with Spanish cannon, if indeed they had not already done so secretly. One of these lies amongst the ruins of the Hay's castle of Old Slains above St Catherine's Dub near Collieston. Here my father took me as a kid for my grandmothers family had a cottage there and I remember the gun sitting on the headland in the shadow of the ruin, blown up by James in revenge for Hay's treachery. Another cannon sits outside Haddo House a few miles west of my home, and a modern home of the Gordon's, while a third is at Peterhead Museum, just up the road.

Then there was the Spanish ship which stopped off in Tobermory Bay and whose crew were used by the McLeans of Duart to settle some feuds with the MacDonalds and MacIans before the ship was destroyed on the orders of Walsingham, Elizabeth I's "spymaster".

Who needs to wait to the Jacobite rebellion and Glen Sheil before you have Spanish in the Heather?!

StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-32207414296307929942023-11-02T22:43:00.000+00:002023-11-02T22:43:27.855+00:00A Great Christmas Prezzie.......
The Wargames Annual.

What a great gift. A bit of stereotyping but why not. Wargames Atlantic Conquistadors and Foundry/Casting Room “command”. I have some redoubt figures on order...(will see how long they take to turn up!), but I'm hoping they're a good fit size ways as these are nice figures, particularly the firing pose, but I'm two short for a unit and I don't want to pay the daft prices they go for on eBay.

Have to say I’m really enjoying painting renaissance stuff and am working my way through the 2nd and 3rd Tudor Art of Warre books from Helion and their One Faith, One Law, One King book on the armies of the French Wars of Religion which arrived today. More about the former another time, but our Franco Prussian collection is getting large and whilst we wait for the Perry's to build up the range I now have 3 Divisions of French infantry whilst Graham's got about 2 Divisions of Prussians. We both need cavalry and artillery more infantry.

That didn't stop us having a game though, to test my home made rules which are a pastiche of bits of Osprey's blue book activation and other mechanisms. A few tweaks are required, and we worked out a way to represent off table artillery which helps give the battlefield the right sort of depth and the Prussians the ability to plaster the French, and negate the power of the Chassepot...although they still need to take the ground.

Piccies below from what was a rather nice day.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Behind the bothy were the ruins of the "castle" of The Black Colonel, a staunch Jacobite who blew up his own castle as the redcoats came to take him after Killiecrankie and then hid in gorge to escape. A great story for a wee kid.

More was revealed in a book I have mentioned before on this Blog - Fenton Wyness's Legends of North East Scotland.

However it wasn't until fairly recently that I stumbled across John Farqhuarson once again. This time his exploits were more detailed. Mr Wyness was never one to let the facts get in the way of a good story, but in truth the history was well worth following up.

Not only was there skirmish at Inverey, but at Braemar and another at Ballater too.

Illustration and Re-enactors skirmishing in the woods at Braemar Castle

From Lesley Weston's blog

As I already have Jacobites it was a case of adding Williamite forces and as they seem to have been dragoons I started to look around for some. The venerable Dixon range is a little limited when it comes to dragoons. The obvious choice - Warfare - didn't come up with the goods either. I need horses as well as mounted and dismounted dragoon and I thought I'd have to make do with a mix of infantry and standing horses. However Ebor have now got Grand Alliance figures AND have dragoon units on foot with horse holders. Sorted! Even better they come with a mix of heads and poses so perfect for skirmish games and their Paul Hicks sculpts fit in with the older Warrior Miniature Jacobites.

As these lads were far from the the campaigns going on in Ireland I have swapped two hats for highland bonnets and when it comes to painting breeches won't all be regularly uniform either. These will be packed off and sent to the painter next week.

For terrain I shall need a bastle house - the Colonel's "Castle". I already have a tower house suitable for Braemar, which didn't have its wall at this time, that's a later post Jacobite addition. For Ballater I thought I'd need more pine trees, but a hunt around the internet shows the pass of Ballater almost treeless in a 19thC photograph, it's carpet of pines is the result of later plantings.

Whilst the figures are getting painted I will type up my notes into background and scenarios. These will be available later this year as part of a well known wargames publication.

StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-61870531719524679282023-08-20T09:58:00.001+01:002023-08-20T09:58:20.073+01:00Napoleonics - French vs Russians pt2
After a few weeks gap I was up at Forres to see Graham H and finish off our napoleonic game. The first part is described here.

The Russians had suffered some losses but their force was now bearding down on the French, who were now fully deployed to fight but further back from the road to the bridge. The question was would the Russians be able to drive the French off completely or would the now prepared French cause too much damage.

As Graham's Russian columns bore down I have to admit I wasn't feeling too confident. I had the upper hand in guns but no real centre to speak of, it would be a few turns til I could bring my Marines into position and I'd have to limber up and move my central battery to do that, I didn't think I'd get time...

On my left Grahams columns hit... and were brought to a halt. For the next few turns two regiments battered the hell out of each other, the combat flowing back and forth as each failed to drive home a decisive blow. Taking a leaf out of Wellingtons book I set one of the regiments of that brigade into line and it began to fire into the advancing Russian flank.

Graham's cavalry was screening the bridge so remained in its position so my right flank was able to get time to form up. I was trading men for time and two French regiments were whittled down whilst I manoeuvred to a better position. But the battle had not reached its decisive turn.

A combination of musketry and cannon fire stripped out three stands from Grahams attacking columns halting them on the spot. His battery in the middle was also destroyed and suddenly it was the Russians without a centre, not the French.

It was time to head for the bridge. Graham's columns now had to turn and move across the table and it became a foot race. My lancers went forward into the open space but Graham pulled his screen of cavalry back and gained time for his wrecked infantry to escape.

Great fun to play this scenario, based on the allied movements on Pirna in 1813 and good to get some Napoleonics out on the table.

StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-27924290127361465242023-08-11T21:26:00.000+01:002023-08-11T21:26:13.789+01:00Bakumatsu - From Samurai to Soldier
This lovely book arrived yesterday. I saw it mentioned on Mark Copplestones instagram and couldn't resist. It's best described as a very chunky Osprey with lots and lots of period illustrations backed up by very nice modern artists impressions and photographs of locations, buildings and original items of equipment and reproductions.

The period in question, from the 1860's to the 1870's, was one of massive change in Japan. Tradition, Culture and everyday life were being met by Western ideas and goods. For the Samurai it was to be their final and fatal flourish where traditionalists with armour and sword faced down modern rifles and artillery.

Or at least that's the simple summary - there's a lot more to it than that.

Coupled with the Last Samurai Rebellion Supplement for The Men Who Would be Kings and perhaps Ronin there is a wealth of gaming to be explored.

Figures are available from Bac Ninh miniatures specifically for the period for and by converting Warlords plastic samurai or not if your taste is more traditional. Likewise Perry miniatures have plenty figures useable and some of the Steel Fist Samurai commanders would be particularly good for leaders.

This ticks both my 19thC and samurai boxes and also dovetails nicely with my interest in Japan at the start of the 20th century and the Russo-Japanese war, when Japan completed its transition from introverted isolationist state to regional and belligerent power.
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-32375652358463968942023-07-30T14:57:00.000+01:002023-07-30T14:57:23.915+01:00Project Alma - the Battle
Yesterday I had some friends over for a game. In the warm sun (and blustery breeze) we played the Alma game I've been painting up figures and getting scenery for.

The breeze played havoc initially with the gazebo we played under and a few times blew in and knocked down trees on the table but it died down and we spent a very enjoyable afternoon playing the scenario, based on Neil Thomas's from his 19th Century Wargames book but using the mechanisms from Rebels and Patriots to play the game. While we played our wives chatted in the other corner of the garden and we got together for a nice Turkish inspired meal cooked by my wife. It was a cracking day.

But back to the game, John and Eric took the British and Bill and Graham the Russians. The Russians then began to open up on the infantry and John and Eric's dice throwing for activations was so bad that I had to intervene as umpire and inform them that Lord Raglan had moved his position so that they could get an additional CinC bonus and actually move things forward !

Starting Postitions

The high water mark

This did the trick and after dinner in particular the Brits were able to get moving and cause some real damage to the Russians. After last weeks games at Oldmeldrum Wargames Club, we decided we'd have another game or two this week. As I'd finished painting and basing cavalry to go with my infantry I thought we'd have a cavalry only game - and so played the River Crossing Scenario from the Pikeman's Lament rulebooks. The Swedes had two units of Gallopers plus two units of Cossacks, which the Russians had Trotters and two Cossacks. The Russians should really have been dragoons but I wanted to see how the two different cavalry units would interact.

The Russians sent their Cossacks galloping forward and across the central bridge whilst their horse aimed for either flank. The Swedes on the other hand sent the majority of their mounted men to the western side of the bridge, only to have to pull some back as the Russian Cossacks crossed swiftly. A swirling skirmish broke out with units circling and trying to wipe each other out, in the end the Swedes came off best and the surviving Russian Cossacks retreated off table.

However on the river itself things were interesting the caracoling Russian horse nibbled away at their Swedish opponents, wearing them down. Seeing no other option the Swedish leader challenged his Russian opponent to a duel which he won with a thrust of his sword. However poor activation dice on the Swedish part game the Russians a chance to retaliate and they overran the Swedish unit "capturing" said officer and leading him to the rear where his chances looked slim!

Leaderless and without the ability to drive away the Swedes the game was over for the Russians but we decided to play a second game. The Swedes would deploy their infantry up to the line of the river. The Russians would deploy theirs along the north edge of the table. The Swedes went first placing a field gun on the south east corner to fire along the Russian line and a veteran musketeer unit between the gun and the bridge, a unit on the bridge and a unit of horse and final musketeer unit on the north western length of the river. The Russians lined up along the table but stacked their forces on the right, they also deployed a gun, a lighter and mobile battalion piece.

Driving forward the Russians were soon at the river and splashed across wearing down the Swedish units with good musketry and the supporting battalion gun. The swedes put in a cavalry charge but it was easily seen off and after several poor activation rolls and a blunder their flank was swept away. The Russians managed to lose a unit in trying to attach the bridge, but regained it when they score well following a double 6 allowing them to gain a 4pt reinforcement. As the Russians had now cleared the Swedish flank their position was untenable and the game was called.

Two great games, very different, but fought over the same terrain. I think we'd do the same again, playing out different phases of scouting, approach and pitched battle. The ebb and flow of battle is really well represented by the flip of initiative from side to side when an activation test or rally test is failed. It can be frustrating to lose at the beginning of your turn, but in these small games there's no long wait til it's back to you and an option for multi player games would be for each player to have an officer and a separate turn.

It's was good to see the figures on the table too - nice bright colours, soon to be augmented by regular cavalry for both sides when I get round to finishing the bases for them too.
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1461679481434317626.post-18343355871437850482023-07-08T15:37:00.001+01:002023-07-08T15:37:20.802+01:00The Sons of Taras Bulba!
I have restored some of the classic Foundry Cossack Characters which I fell heir to last year. Originally in my late friend Mike's collection these had been bumped around a bit and had some bashes and scrapes as well as a few missing lances. They were also based for a winter campaign.

I gave the snowy bases a good dabbing in green poster paint and drybrushed that up a little then tidied up the figures and hoses where I could see bare metal poking through. Lastly I gave them a good coat of varnish since it's a fine sunny day up here.

These will join my GNW Russians and Swedes as allies or enemies for either.

But now I have no excuse to get some winged hussars! 🤦🏻♂️
StuartInschhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02767926453730695701noreply@blogger.com4
